Low-Cost Vehicle Tracking and Productivity Measurement

MDM elevates waste origin-verification to the next level with an innovative system that combines GPS and RFID technologies to automatically record when and where a vehicle collects refuse or recyclables. A low-cost and more accurate alternative to manual recording, this system can easily be installed on any conventional front loader, side loader, or roll-off truck. Data gathered while a vehicle is on a collection route is downloaded to a wireless network when the vehicle enters the scale area of a landfill or transfer station, or returns to the dispatch yard.

A pilot program is currently underway, and the system will be available to other fleet operators in the second quarter of 2009.

Follow the Truck: The information available on each equipped vehicle includes: Number of lifts Locations at which a bin or can was collected Time of each collection and total time on route Number of collections summarized by city, street, or zip code Weight of material collected in city or on each route (when merged with data from disposal or recycling facility) GPS trace of actual vehicle route
